Definition: Social-emotional learning is the planned and conscious development of a student’s social and emotional acuity. Social-emotional learning rounds out the academic learning in order to ensure teaching and learning of the whole child. Social-emotional learning takes into consideration both the social and emotional needs of learners. It is not “touchy-feely” so much as it is about personal regulation and development of habits of a healthy mind and heart.
