Definition: A criteria by which demonstrated proficiency is determined. Standards are used to create a shared understanding of what skills and/or content for a particular age group or grade or school class must be demonstrated in order to show proficiency. Standards guide curricular choices and are often mandated at the state level for publicly funded K-12 schools.
